On this Easter Sunday when Christendom still seems far more wowed by miracles than by living as Jesus in the Gospels lived and taught others to live, a really important chapter in my life may have closed, as per my email this morning to the Birmingham Duplicate Bridge Club (BDBC):
Dear Birmingham Duplicate Bridge Club and some of its members:
It came to my attention yesterday that some club members may think I stopped playing at the club because of DL. That is not true. My lady Chris and I really like DL, and he had nothing to do with why I stopped playing at the club.
I emailed DL last night:
“Don’t know what you heard, D. Chris said just now that she really likes you, as do I. You see life very differently from most people I know.
“I told my playing partners MS and PP this past week that I won’t be playing at the club, because my feet are too numb for me to safely drive in that kind of traffic from Blount County through Birmingham and Jefferson County to Shelby County, and because Chris was getting sick every time she was at the clubhouse watching us play bridge- she’s an empath and she absorbs what goes on in people she’s around and it’s really intense for her at the bridge club, and I’m not okay with her driving me down there 45 miles one way in intense traffic, and then she hangs out somewhere for 3/12 hours waiting to come back and pick me up and drive us home in drive time traffic.”
At PP’s suggestion this past week, I checked out Uber bringing me to the bridge club and taking me home. I learned Uber is not reliable where Chris and I live, and there was nothing available from her home to the Bridge Club that day, but if there was something available, the cheapest fare would be $81 one-way.
Chris and I are on Facebook and a few club members became Facebook friends with us.
Here is a link for a video Chris and I did last night and posted on our Facebook pages.

In that video, I asked Chris to read this passage, which I never heard mentioned in a Christian church:
Luke 14: 26 NIV
“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.”
I said people are saved by Jesus to the extent they live as he lived and taught in the Gospels.
In the video, I mentioned Chris’s quilting blog and her free not for the faint of heart autobiography ebook and her podcast:

My parents taught me to play bridge the old ways. When I returned to bridge in 2004, in Key West, I had to learn some of the new ways, but the old ways remained at the core. Bridge reminds me of chess, which I took up in 2005, in Key West. Like golf, which was my father’s game, bridge and chess are X-rays of the soul. As is life.
Chris and I wish you well.
Sloan
